Shock's Strong Season 2 In Review

The St. Louis Shock recently concluded Major League Pickleball’s Season 2 in the team’s inaugural year of competition. The Shock’s strong performance throughout the season earned them a spot in MLP’s Season 2 Playoffs in San Clemente, CA, Dec. 4th- 5th, where they would go on to defeat the California BLQK Bears 3 Games to 1 in the team’s Semifinal match. The Shock advanced to the Challenger Level Championship Match losing to the SoCal Hard Eights.

The Shock’s Season 2 roster was filled out by Rob Nunnery, Judit Castillo, Genie Erokhina, and Martin Emmrich. The team began their season at MLP Atlanta where they would go 1-2 in competitive Group Stage matches. The Shock bounced back with a strong performance at MLP Dallas where they would go 3-0 in their Group Stage matches earning them the #1 seed heading into that event’s playoff round losing in the Semifinals. The team’s overall success resulted an invite to the Season 2 Playoffs.

Off the court, the Shock participated in many activities within the Greater St. Louis area this season. Shock players Judit Castillo and Genie Erokhina led numerous clinics, took part in an exhibition match, and were a part of the St. Louis Blues Dink at the Rink Pickleball Theme Night. The Shock also had presence at many community events, such as the inaugural Pickle Palooza at Ballpark Village and Digital Strike’s Pickleball Tournament in Webster Groves.

The Shock welcomed new sponsors this season to its growing number of partners. The Shock partnered with DUPR becoming the first Major League Pickleball team to have a DUPR Digital Club providing fans club-specific offers and access (Shock & DUPR Partnership Announced). Two Men and a Garden’s partnership provided the St. Louis-based salsa and pickle producer various partnership elements, including being the presenting partner of the Shock’s “Shocking Point of the Match” social media feature throughout the season (Shock & TMG Partnership Announced). In partnership with Vetta Sports, the Shock put on watch parties at Vetta Gametime in St. Peters during the MLP Playoffs providing a centralized viewing opportunity for fans.

The Shock will begin their 2024 campaign in February as part of the Premier Level, the top level of play in Major League Pickleball.
